Patriotism

Patriotism
The only way he could save his squad was by giving his own life. Terrified, he ran out into the open directing the attention of the enemy towards him and away from his squad. There was a loud clatter of gunfire than he fell to the ground as the rest of his squad escaped the terrible ambush. This is an example of patriotism. If this man didn’t do what he did both him and his squad wouldn’t have made it. Patriotism still matters because if people didn’t have it our country would no longer be united.
When most people hear the word patriotism they think about the men and women in the military. If those people that are in the military didn’t have patriotism they probably would not be there. If we didn’t have a military our country would have less power. Less power could lead to us getting pushed around by other countries. That would make the citizens in the U.S angry. Angry citizens would argue, they would dislike their country and most importantly they wouldn’t be united.
Most that are in the military have patriotism. They are willing to help their country no matter what it takes. My grandpa was in the military but never did anything dangerous like go to war, but he still had patriotism. You don’t need to be in the military to have patriotism. You and I can have patriotism too. Patriotism is when someone is loyal to their country. Some people have it others don’t.
I do not understand why some people don’t have patriotism. It could be that they don’t believe in it. Maybe it’s against their religion which wouldn’t make any sense at all. It’s not my decision if someone is patriotic or not but all I know is that I am patriotic.
