Deep Water
Have you ever had an experience that still affected you years later? William O. Douglas wrote the story Deep Water based on something that happened to him. Someone threw him into a pool when he was young. He almost drowned and feared water for a long time. Later in life he decided that he needed to overcome his fear. He took swim lessons and eventually was able to swim by himself comfortably. I enjoyed reading this story because it kept me thinking about what was going to happen next.
I think that it would be very hard to overcome a fear like that after what had happened. I almost drowned once at the dells when I was only five or six years old. I we couldn’t touch and didn’t know how swim. We were using each other to get above water. My mom ended up jumping in and helping us. I didn’t want to go near water for a few months after that but over all I was okay.
The author did a good job of making the story sound real. He used a variety of vocabulary words that helped make the story more interesting. It sounded very realistic. This story was very well written and made me feel almost like I was there watching all this happen.
I did like this story. The author did a great job of recreating the event. It made me feel like I was there. I also liked the lesson of this book. It showed that you can overcome your fears. In the story he overcame his fear of swimming. i enjoyed this story because it kept me wondering what was going to happen next.
